The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team that is part of the NBA. The team is currently located in Oakland, California and play in the Oracle Arena. They are a member of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference. The team was established in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1946 and donned the name “Philadelphia Warriors”. The franchise would relocate in 1962 to the Bay Area, more specifically, San Francisco, California. They changed their name to the San Francisco Warriors. The team would later change its name to the Golden State Warriors in 1971 donning the often nick name given to the state of California.
On July 15,2010, Chris Cohan, previous owner of the Warriors, sold the team to current owners Joe Lacob and his partner Peter Guber for a measly $450 million. The team is now worth close to $2 billion according to a recent team evaluation list done by Forbes. The current general manager of the Golden State Warriors is Bob Myers and the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors is Steve Kerr. The team has on won a total of eight NBA championships since the team was established in 1946 and has won one as recently as 2015. The Golden State Warriors organization also owns a Developmental League team named the Santa Cruz Warriors based in Santa Cruz, California.
