Oh my what a game! In his return to OKC for the first time since leaving the team in free agency, Kevin Durant did not disappoint. KD finished with 34 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 3 assists and a Warriors win, 130-114. The focus was not necessarily on the outcome of the game, but how the fans would greet the superstar in his return home. To answer the question of how Thunder fans would greet their former superstar, they booed Kevin Durant early and often. During the starting lineup introductions, every time he touched the ball, you name it. The fans took advantage of every time they could boo KD and even chanted the word “cupcake” every time Durant went to the free throw line.

None of this seemed to bother KD and the rest of his Warriors teammates. Another interesting aspect of the game was the interactions between Kevin Durant and his ex-running mate, Russell Westbrook. Out of the three head-to-head match ups between the two players so far this season, this seemed to be the game where both players laid out their true emotions for one another. During a timeout late in the third quarter, Durant and Westbrook started jawing at each other as they returned to their respective benches and it appears that Westbrook was shouting to Durant “I’m coming!” There were numerous other occasions where Durant and Westbrook were guarding each other, both on offense and defense, and the fans would get extra rowdy whenever this match up presented itself. Russell Westbrook balled out for his team as he finished the game with 47 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists, but simply just did not have the supporting cast to spoil Kevin Durant’s return to OKC. Overall, this will be an experience Durant will never forget and one win he and his teammates will savor for the rest of the season.
